Rawalpindi: Good news for the residents of Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment! The construction of modern underground tanks capable of storing 1 million gallons of water daily has entered its final stages. These projects aim to provide a lasting solution to the longstanding water shortage in local communities, ensuring improved supply and overcoming the seasonal scarcity, especially during the summer months.

Thanks to the efforts of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Rawalpindi Division President and Member of the National Assembly from NA-55, Malik Abrar Ahmad, these initiatives have been expedited through federal and provincial grants. Malik Abrar Ahmad stated that every year with the onset of summer, residents of Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment faced severe water shortages due to the lack of nearby water storage facilities. Keeping this critical issue in view, the allocated funds are being prioritized for these vital projects to ensure timely and sufficient water supply to the public.

According to Malik Abrar Ahmad, construction is rapidly progressing on underground tanks at Bhata Chowk, with a storage capacity of 200,000 gallons per day, and at Gawalmandi, with a capacity of 100,000 gallons per day. Additionally, projects are underway at Naseerabad, Barf Khana Chowk, Ghazi Abad, Afshan Colony, Tench Bhatta, Tahli Mohri, and Wards 7, 8, 9, and 10 of Chaklala Cantonment, each designed to store 50,000 gallons daily. These tanks are expected to be completed by next month, after which 100% water supply coverage in these areas will be achieved.

In response to a question, Malik Abrar Ahmad mentioned that some of the water storage projects are being executed by Public Health Engineering teams, while others are being managed by Cantonment Board teams, who are working tirelessly around the clock to complete them. He further informed that Rs. 85 million are being invested to lay new water supply and sewerage lines, significantly improving both water distribution and drainage systems.

On this occasion, Malik Abrar Ahmad expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for their special interest and commitment to addressing the needs of the Rawalpindi Cantonment residents. He emphasized that the way the federal and provincial leadership has prioritized the issues of these communities is deeply appreciated. “InshaAllah, Pakistan Muslim League (N) will continue to stand with the people of the cantonment and work tirelessly for their well-being. The people of the cantonment live in our hearts, and their prosperity remains the core of our political mission,” he added.
