Water situation in Balochistan’s canal-irrigated areas satisfactory; no water crisis, says Secretary Irrigation

The Secretary Irrigation Balochistan, Hafiz Abdul Majid has stated that the water supply situation across most canal systems in the Nasirabad Division remains satisfactory thanks to effective strategy of the Government of Balochistan and consistent monitoring by the field teams of the Irrigation Department.
He said water is currently available up to the tail ends of the majority of canals, which is a positive development for farmers and residents of the region.
He noted that last year, Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, had approved and released funds amounting to Rs. 100 million for the desilting and cleaning of canals, which played a key role in ensuring smooth water flow throughout the region. Additionally, under the Chief Minister’s special attention and directives, the Kachhi Canal was also successfully restored this year, enabling irrigation in the command area where farmers were able to cultivate their crops.
Hafiz Abdul Majid said that the Pat Feeder Canal is flowing with water up to the tail regulator. Similarly, water is available up to the tail ends in several canals including Jhudher, Naseer, Temple, Bari, Balan, Mohabbat and Qadei branches, Ropa, Umrani, Uch, Manjhooti, Uch Link Canal, Faizabad, Methri, Kobo, Dohri, Rabi Canal, and the Magsi branch.
He added that the water flow in the Magsi Canal is continuing toward its tail. Under the Khirthar Canal System in Usta Muhammad, the Domb Canal is supplying water up to the tail and is also catering to the requirements of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Phase-2. Meanwhile, the Khanpur Canal is flowing fully up to its tail end and continues to supply water for PHE Phase-1 in Usta Muhammad town.
In the Noorpur Canal System, water has reached up to RD-17 in the main branch, and the branch canal is steadily moving toward the tail, with full tail-end coverage expected within 24 hours. Similarly, the Gandakha Canal is also progressing toward the tail-end areas, and full availability is expected within the next day.
Addressing drinking water concerns, the Secretary said that water supply has been restored up to Jhal Magsi. Under the Kachhi Canal System, water continues to flow from Taunsa to Nasirabad, while 14 minor canal channels connected to the Kachhi Canal are active and supplying water in Sui Tehsil, District Dera Bugti.
He emphasized that all these measures have been undertaken in a timely manner keeping public needs in focus — not only to boost agricultural productivity but also to ensure the availability of clean drinking water.
