Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi chaired a high-level meeting of the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department on Thursday, directing an intensified crackdown against drug manufacturers, suppliers, and dealers across the province.
The Chief Minister expressed grave concern over the growing reach of narcotics, warning that the menace has now spread to universities. “We cannot afford further negligence. Concrete and practical measures must be taken to protect our youth from this curse,” he said.
Calling the eradication of heroin and crystal meth (ice) an absolute necessity, Sohail Afridi ordered the formulation of a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to target the production, supply, and distribution networks of narcotics.
He instructed the formation of a joint task force comprising all relevant departments and law enforcement agencies to ensure effective implementation. “Action against sleeper cells is important, but we must also dismantle the major suppliers and dealers behind this trade,” he added.
Reaffirming his government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, the Chief Minister stressed that actions must be result-oriented and evidence-based. “No one should be harassed unnecessarily — genuine enforcement based on facts will have the government’s full support,” he emphasized.
Afridi also directed that all confiscated narcotics must be immediately destroyed, ensuring that no seized substances re-enter the market under any circumstances.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister approved a Rs. 550 million plan to strengthen the Excise Force, which includes operational upgrades, procurement of advanced IT equipment, and specialized training programs for field officers.
Additionally, he instructed the strict enforcement of the policy regarding the retrieval of official vehicles from unauthorized and retired officers, warning that non-compliance would lead to legal action.
“The government will extend every possible support, but in return, it expects visible and effective action against this growing menace,” Chief Minister Afridi concluded.
