Independent Report
Ziarat, Jan 28: Deputy Commissioner Abdul Quddus Achakzai has reported the successful clearance of major roads in Ziarat district following a severe snowstorm earlier this week, commending PDMA and district teams for their rapid response that prevented casualties and ensured safe passage.
At a press briefing held at the DC Office, attended by PDMA Director Naveed Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Sajad Rehman, and FC Captain Muhammad Arif, the deputy commissioner detailed the impact of the snowfall. He noted that while the first spell brought light snow, the subsequent storm resulted in heavy accumulation, blocking roads and disrupting travel across key routes.
Under directives from the Chief Minister, PDMA deployed heavy machinery that enabled coordinated efforts by the district administration, C&W, and other relevant departments to reopen critical highways. Several tourists stranded at Loralai Top were safely rescued, averting any damage to life or property.
Key routes cleared included the Quetta–Loralai Top–Ziarat Road, Ziarat–Sanjavi Road (Kotal and Chotir sections), and Quaid-e-Azam Residency Road. Snow removal operations relied on machinery from PDMA and line departments, supplemented by strategic salting at vulnerable points to maintain road safety.
Deputy Commissioner Achakzai praised the collective efforts of PDMA Director Naveed Ahmed, Relief Officer Samiullah, FC personnel, assistant commissioners, tehsildars, and district staff for their prompt and coordinated action. He confirmed that all roads have been reopened and assured that the administration will continue to provide full support and relief during the winter season.
Snowfall measurements indicated approximately 18 inches in Ziarat city, with Kotal and Chotir areas on the Ziarat–Sanjavi Road receiving around 24 inches. The DC emphasized that round-the-clock coordination will remain in place to effectively manage any future emergencies.
