The Balochistan Mines and Minerals Department has issued notices to 268 companies and individuals holding mining leases but failing to initiate operations across various districts of the province. Officials said the action follows violations of the Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act 2025. According to the department, the highest number of inactive leases were identified in Chagai district, where dozens of marble, chromite, and iron leases remain non-operational. Other affected districts include Quetta, Duki, Khuzdar, Qalat, Lasbela, Mastung, and Zhob. Lease holders have been directed to submit explanations within 30 days, failing which their licenses will be cancelled. Authorities stated that the move aims to ensure effective utilization of mineral resources and prevent speculative holding of valuable assets. Officials added that inactive leases cause financial losses to the province and delay employment opportunities for local communities. The department reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, regulation, and sustainable development in the mining sector.
