Chagai, 08 March: In a significant anti-narcotics effort, the Excise Department of Balochistan has destroyed an extensive illegal poppy (opium) cultivation spanning around 200 acres in the Kurdo area of Chagai district.
The operation, conducted in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Pakistan Customs, and other law enforcement agencies, formed part of an ongoing campaign against narcotics cultivation and trafficking. Security personnel secured the area before authorities deployed heavy machinery to uproot and eradicate the illegal crops.
Officials confirmed that the operation also targeted cultivation infrastructure. Solar-powered tube well systems used for irrigation were dismantled, and solar panels were damaged to prevent the land from being reused for illicit farming.
Authorities emphasized that this action aligns with the government’s broader strategy to eliminate narcotics production networks in the province. Investigations are underway to identify those responsible and ensure they face legal action, while similar operations are expected to continue to combat illegal drug cultivation in the region.
