QUETTA (July 18): Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that terrorism and violence can never be accepted as legitimate means of pursuing political objectives, reaffirming that Pakistan possesses the determination and resilience to defeat every attempt aimed at undermining its peace and stability.
Speaking during an interactive session with more than 4,000 students of Grades 9 to 12 from 18 cities participating in the ISPR Summer Camp on Saturday, the chief minister underscored the importance of national unity, describing Pakistan and Balochistan as inseparable entities committed to a shared future of peace and development.
Referring to the recent incident at Mangi Dam, Bugti said the attackers targeted innocent civilians after they refused to cooperate with anti-state elements. He termed the dam a strategically important project that plays a crucial role in supplying water to different parts of Balochistan, adding that its significance made it a target for terrorists.
The chief minister said police personnel who first responded to the attack were subsequently followed by another assault on the reinforcement team sent to the area. He informed the gathering that a judicial commission had already been established to investigate the incident thoroughly and would present its findings after completing an impartial inquiry.
Touching on the prevailing political environment, Bugti alleged that certain political figures had attempted to mislead the public through propaganda during the Quetta sit-in. He maintained that the people of Balochistan, in close cooperation with Pakistan’s armed forces, would continue to frustrate every conspiracy aimed at creating instability in the country.
The chief minister also referred to Pakistan’s recent military confrontation with India, saying the country had responded decisively under the leadership of the Field Marshal. He remarked that the nation had stood united alongside its armed forces during what he described as Marka-e-Haq, adding that those allegedly involved in anti-Pakistan activities had witnessed the consequences of their actions.
Reiterating his government’s position, Bugti said violence could never provide a legitimate solution to political disagreements. He stressed that Pakistan, founded as a sovereign state, would continue to move forward with confidence and expressed optimism about the country’s future.
He further alleged that Afghan territory was being used by terrorist groups to launch activities against Pakistan and called for greater attention to the issue at the regional and international levels.
Addressing the students, the chief minister urged them to devote themselves to education, develop critical thinking and contribute positively to national progress. He expressed confidence that the younger generation would play a defining role in shaping a peaceful, secure and prosperous Pakistan.
Concluding his address, Bugti reaffirmed that the bond between Pakistan and Balochistan was unbreakable, expressing confidence that the country would continue to remain strong, united and resilient in the face of every challenge.
