APHC Delegation Meets Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister, Discusses Kashmir Issue and Right to Self-Determination

GILGIT, July 18: A delegation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) met with the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan to discuss the Kashmir issue, the right to self-determination, the constitutional status of Gilgit-Baltistan and other matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister said the Gilgit-Baltistan government believes in the unity of the former State of Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the resolution on Gilgit-Baltistan’s provisional accession to Pakistan, presented in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, should not create any ambiguity, adding that the provisional arrangement would not affect the internationally recognized right to self-determination.
He further said that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan support the right to self-determination and consider themselves part of that process.
APHC Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi said that, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions, the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have an equal right to exercise self-determination.
The meeting also included a detailed exchange of views on the Kashmir dispute, regional developments and issues related to the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
