WASHINGTON, July 18: Two U.S. service members were killed and another remains missing following Iranian missile and drone strikes targeting a U.S. military base in Jordan, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The attack marks the first direct combat deaths of American troops from Iranian fire since the conflict began in March.

CENTCOM said four additional service members were injured during the attack and were evacuated for medical treatment before being discharged from hospitals in Jordan. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of their families.

The strike represents a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, with tensions continuing to rise across the Middle East. U.S. officials have not announced any immediate response, while an investigation into the incident is underway.
