DC Orders Equitable Canal Water Supply to Protect Tail-End Farmers in Jaffarabad

JAFFARABAD (July 18): Deputy Commissioner Jaffarabad Khalid Khan has directed the Irrigation Department to ensure the equitable distribution of canal water so that farmers in tail-end areas receive their due share without unnecessary delay during the ongoing irrigation season.
The instructions were issued during a joint inspection of distributary canals carried out with Parliamentary Secretary for Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) and Member of the Provincial Assembly Engineer Abdul Majeed Badini. The visit was aimed at assessing water availability, monitoring canal flows and reviewing the irrigation supply system across the district.
During the inspection, Irrigation Department Sub-Divisional Officer Murad Bakhsh Marri briefed the visiting officials on the current water situation, the operational status of the canal network and the mechanism being followed to distribute irrigation water among cultivators.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Khalid Khan emphasized that every available resource should be utilized to ensure the timely supply of irrigation water in accordance with farmers’ allocated shares. He said fair and transparent distribution was essential to sustain agricultural production and minimize the difficulties faced by growers, particularly those cultivating land at the tail end of the canal system.
Engineer Abdul Majeed Badini said the provincial government remained committed to protecting the agricultural sector and addressing the challenges confronting farming communities. He observed that growers in the tail-end areas of Jaffarabad were experiencing serious hardship due to water shortages and stressed the need for immediate corrective measures to guarantee uninterrupted irrigation supplies and safeguard standing crops.
