Independent Report
GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has launched a comprehensive cleanliness campaign at key tourist destinations, including Fairy Meadows, Babusar Top and other environmentally sensitive valleys in Diamer district, following directives issued by Chief Secretary Arshad Majeed Mohmand.
According to an official statement, a joint task force comprising officials from the Diamer district administration, the Forest Department and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been formed to oversee a three-day solid waste management operation during the peak summer tourism season.
The campaign includes the scientific segregation and environmentally safe disposal of waste collected from Babusar Top, the Karakoram Highway and trekking routes leading to Fairy Meadows. The initiative aims to protect fragile high-altitude ecosystems, wildlife and natural water sources from pollution caused by plastic, cans and other non-biodegradable waste.
The Gilgit-Baltistan government has urged tourists to practice responsible tourism by avoiding littering and helping preserve the region’s natural beauty and ecological environment.
